Overview
Ledger Live is the official companion app for Ledger hardware wallets. It lets you manage accounts, view balances, receive/send crypto, buy/swap assets, and interact with staking and DeFi integrations while keeping your private keys offline on the device.
1. Download Ledger Live
Always download Ledger Live from Ledger's official site or the official mobile app stores to avoid counterfeit apps. Choose the installer that matches your platform (Windows / macOS / Linux / iOS / Android).
- Go to the official Ledger Live download page and select your OS.
- Verify checksum/signatures if provided for added safety.
2. Set up your Ledger device
Power on the hardware device (Nano X, Nano S Plus, Nano S). During initialization you will either create a new device (generate a seed phrase) or recover an existing wallet from seed words. Write your recovery phrase on the provided sheet — never store it digitally.
- Pick a strong PIN on the device.
- Write down the 24-word recovery phrase and keep it offline, private, and safe.
3. Install & open Ledger Live
After installing Ledger Live, open it and choose Get started. Connect and unlock your Ledger device when prompted. Install the latest firmware/upgrades when Ledger Live or the device prompts you.
4. Add accounts & manage assets
In Ledger Live, go to Accounts → Add account and choose the crypto asset. Ledger Live fetches your public addresses (remember: private keys stay on the device). You can receive, send, swap, and stake from these accounts.
5. Security best practices
- Only download Ledger Live from ledger.com or official app stores.
- Ledger will never ask for your 24-word recovery phrase — if asked, it’s a scam.
- Use the official support site and academy for step-by-step guides and video tutorials.
- Keep device firmware up to date, and validate app signatures when available.
6. Troubleshooting & help
If Ledger Live or your device behaves unexpectedly, consult Ledger Support and the Getting Started guides first. Beware of imitation sites, phishing, and unsolicited tech-help requests asking for your recovery phrase or seed.
